В книгата систематизирано се представя теорията и практиката на одита. Дисциплината Одитинг (Auditing) е една от основни­те счетоводни дисциплини, заедно с Финансово счетовод­ство (Financial Accounting), Управленско счетоводство (Management Accounting) и Данъчно облагане (Taxation). Зна­нията и уменията, които се придобиват по тази дисциплина, са необходими за упражняване на всички професии в областта на счетоводството. Теоретичните постановки на одита и одит­ния процес трябва да се познават от регистрираните одитори (одиторите на финансови отчети), одит мениджърите, асистент одиторите, вътрешните одитори в публичния и частния сектор, одиторите на Сметната палата, органите по приходите на Наци­оналната агенция за приходите, инспекторите на Държавната финансова инспекция, финансовите директори (контрольори­те, главните счетоводители) и другите специалисти в областта на счетоводството.&#13;
Съдържанието на книгата се фокусира върху процеса на финансовия одит (одита на финансовите отчети), но разглежда­ните процедури са подходящи за използване във всички одити в областта на счетоводството. Част от тях могат да се прилагат и при другите икономически одити, сред които са одитът на чо­вешките ресурси и маркетинговият одит.
